Dr. George S. Flinn Jr., M.D. is a Memphis native whose distinguished career bridges the worlds of medicine, broadcasting, and public service. With more than four decades of dedication, he has become a pillar of excellence in both healthcare and media — a true innovator and leader whose influence extends across the Mid-South and beyond.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mississippi, Dr. Flinn went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1969. His rare combination of engineering expertise and medical precision allowed him to pioneer new approaches in diagnostic imaging, blending technical innovation with compassionate patient care.
In the mid-1970s, Dr. Flinn established a diagnostic imaging and radiology practice in Memphis, where he offered advanced ultrasound, mammography, and CT scanning at a time when such technology was still new to the region. His clinic became known for its commitment to accuracy, accessibility, and personalized service — helping thousands of patients and setting new standards for Memphis radiology.
His vision expanded beyond medicine in 1988 with the founding of Flinn Broadcasting Corporation, which grew to own and operate numerous radio and television stations across several states. Through Flinn Broadcasting, he provided platforms that uplifted local voices, connected communities, and strengthened the regional media landscape. For more than 35 years, Flinn Broadcasting Corporation has stood as a respected name synonymous with integrity, quality programming, and civic responsibility.

Beyond business and healthcare, Dr. George S. Flinn Jr. has always been guided by service. He served on the Shelby County Board of Commissioners for District 1, where he chaired the Community Services Committee and served as Vice-Chair of the Hospital and Health Committee. His work in public policy mirrored his personal mission — to improve the health and quality of life for every citizen in his community.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Flinn also served as a Commander in the United States Navy and worked with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington, D.C., where he contributed to significant national medical research efforts. These experiences deepened his understanding of public health and strengthened his leadership as both a physician and a policymaker.
Over the decades, Dr. Flinn has combined his dual passions for technology and medicine to help expand teleradiology programs and ensure that modern healthcare reaches rural and underserved communities. His innovations have helped bridge the gap between medical science and accessibility — a testament to his lifelong belief that every person deserves quality care.
